1965 – My fave early pic of The Shangri-las

Of all the early photos of The Shangri-las, this would have to be one of my favourites.
Mary looks very unlike the image you usually saw, the hair is not parted over the face. The bun or weave or wrap ? … I dont know what that style was called, but either way its pretty groovy. . Mary-ann just looks soo cool. and Margie, yeah she looks awesome too.
I like the image for many reasons, but essentially it is not like the cliche image that is always shown of the girls. There are no stiletto heeled beehive wearing, gum chewing leather girls. This was before all of that. It shows, I think , something very real. Young girls, having fun and enjoying whats going on… Mischief in Mary-annes eyes, thats for sure.

Thanks Alex. Yeah I shouldve picked up on that as the image looks the same as the others from that tour, well that press session… you know the colour pics.
That visit in 1965. I’ll never forget. There was some kind of a mix up. They were advertised as doing a tour and were coming to my town.
Mary says they were never booked to tour, only to do some TV. I wish I could get hold of the guy who screwed up – broke my heart!
I like the outfits they have on,reminds of The Rascals.
Those hair pieces always looked like a bird’s nest,the one Mary is wearing.
